ON LOVE AND HEALING: The Challenges at Home
(Excerpted from "The Secret Language of Eating
Disorders" by Montreux founder, Peggy Claude-Pierre)
Work very closely with your doctor to design small, nutritious meals and monitor your child's progress. Six small meals a day are less threatening than three large ones.
You might also ease the stress that follows eating with distraction, rocking, and holding to help your youngster accept the food and prevent her from disappearing into the Negative Mind.
There will be times when the dinner table seems like a battleground. Do your best to stay calm and supportive. Although proper nutrition is obviously vital to a victim's recovery, keep in mind that the focus should not be on food, but on helping the victim reinterpret her world.
