Founders Story
Peggy Claude-Pierre is an internationally renowned author, counselor, lecturer, and group facilitator.
Peggy's understanding began when her two daughters became (successively) ill with anorexia. She became the girls' 24-hour caregiver. The nightmare of helping her own children through a paradoxical psychological disorder evolved into a mission to enlighten society to the true nature of this insidious condition.
Peggy believes Confirmed Negativity Condition, or CNC is the origin of eating disorders and many other self-negating anxiety behaviors, i.e. panic disorders, phobias and obsessive manifestations. CNC is the culmination of negative subjectivity turned against oneself.
Following the recovery of her daughters, referrals from fellow professionals and the desperation of so many parents persuaded her to open the Montreux Counselling Centre, an outpatient practice specializing in the treatment of CNC in 1988. Montreux has demonstrated success with cases deemed hopeless, Peggy and her team have been greatly encouraged by the emerging enthusiasm of the professional community to embrace a more humanistic treatment model. A full recovery from CNC is possible with a carefully monitored intensive care treatment program.
Peggy Claude-Pierre's gentle yet positive approach to the treatment of CNC and its subsequent manifestations have been introduced to millions throughout the world thanks to a number of television productions sensitive to the issue. In North America, ABC TV's Peabody Award winning 20/20 episode of December 2, 1994, gave many people their first glimpse of the deeper torture experienced by the victims of eating disorders, as well as the hope of complete recovery. There followed two further 20/20 airings, two Oprah episodes (seen worldwide), as well as productions from Spiegel TV (Germany), Dutch National Television (Netherlands), Current Affair (Australia), Pointe de Mire (Canada), and several in the UK.
In October of 1997, Peggy wrote her first book, The Secret Language of Eating Disorders. This book has been translated into sixteen languages and has English versions from many more countries. "The Secret Language" continues to be in demand internationally and serves as a textbook guide in many high schools and universities. Her second book which realizes the profile from birth to onset of manifestation of CNC will be out later in 2006. Accompanying workbooks, teaching tapes and documentaries will also be available soon at www.paradigminstitute.ca.
