Treatment Methodologies
Montreux maintains a long-term rehabilitation program to address CNC and the various manifestations thereof as outlined in the book, The Secret Language of Eating Disorders by Peggy Claude-Pierre.
Using a full team of two to five therapists, the program includes daily intensive counseling sessions. Depending upon the interests of the individual other creative and instructional outlets are available. Many clients elect to participate in art and movement expression classes amongst others, with an emphasis on the development of the ignored 'Self'.
Historically, Montreux has experience in treating even the most severe conditions of CNC with the focus having been on eating disorders. Currently, we have expanded our understanding of the etiology of CNC to include most self-negating presentations. The Montreux therapy concerns itself with the development of the emotional 'Self', bringing it to the point of maturity and objectivity.
The Montreux clinic requires medical stability of the client for initial acceptance into the program and maintenance of it for the duration of the stay.
Many clients find some form of support, or companion co-worker a positive addition to the program. While attending Montreux, a guardian or family member is required in residence to provide support for the client. As part of the program, Montreux assists in counseling family members or an appointed guardian.
Most clients find the program rewarding and maintain their participation in it due to its unique application and client goal-oriented results. The counselors provide an unremitting flow of positive reinforcement coupled with the teaching of life skills that allow one to perceive and interpret experiences in an objective manner.
The staff at Montreux is individually selected based upon relevant education, background experience, character, and compassion. Thorough training and continuing education are provided in the principles of treatment and methodology.
